LEAST FAVORITE S.W. CHARACTER « Thread Started on Jan 30, 2008, 9:59pm »
By far. Without a doubt. Jar Jar Binks I remember going to the midnight showing of Episode 1 P.M. and actually getting annoyed for the first time during a S.W. movie. Besides a few parts, the movie was bad enough. I was so hoping for a swift lightsaber decapitation .

LOL... somehow I always knew that if we were to ever have a thread like this, jar jar would have the leading role in it I have to say that don't really mind jar jar, I'm actually indifferent toward him. he's a tad annoying and very childish over-the-top character, true, but the extreme hate campaigns people were launching against him were a little exaggerated IMO
I never actually thought about a least favorite character... there are some that get on my nerves, but I have to think about who' the most annoying one

Yeah, I have a feeling there's not going to be any other character mentioned in her besides Jar Jar.......
I have to say I didn't really care for the character that much. In small doses he was fine but he seemed to be all over the place in Episode 1.
My kids on the other hand loved watching him and that's basically why he was in the picture.....for the kids.
If Jar Jar would have been in the original 3 films back when we were kids I doubt he'd be as despised as he is today by everyone.....
Sometimes we've got to take a step back and remember these new films weren't just targeted at the long time fans.
I also have to say another person I sorta found annoying was Anakin.....and that was in all three films....I never once thought for a second that the character that gave me chills as a kid would turn out to be some whiney teenager with mommy issues.

Jar Jar is without a doubt a character that should have never been placed in the movie (IMO) but he takes a distant second to the Ewoks.
You mean to tell me that an ancient civilization (even by our standards) is going to overcome the empires best troops?
jar jar I can stomach, he's suppose to be a silly, bumbling idiot but it's a far reach when you try and rationalize Chief "Tender Heart Bear" and his group of cute and cuddlies defeating the all powerful Empire.

Ok, as bad as Jar Jar is, I think he pales in comparison to (dont freak out) Anakin Skywalker. I know blasphemy right? Well I just really dont like him. Dont get me wrong I like the "idea" of him, just not the execution in the movies. However, I do like him in the animated series. Anyway heres a rundown of my reasoning.
Ep1- he's way too young and extremely annoying "Yippee" and "Are you an angel?" are some of his worst lines. (though there are many)
Ep2- Could he get more whiney? Was it GL's mission to seek out the stiffest and most inexperienced actor he could find? Anakin in ep2 is a mess, its like they couldnt figure out if they wanted him to be a kickass jedi, or a angsty teen. The kid has more maturity mood swings than in any buffy episode ever.
Ep3- Well he sure flipped the switch to evil pretty quick didnt he? I actually love how Hayden's performance at the end of this movie shows the limitations of his acting. Its like someone told him that in order to play "angry" all he had to do was make intense faces and "grrr" alot. For example: "You will not take her from me! grrrrrr."
Ep6- WTF is up with Hayden at the end of this movie, why is he here? Obi-wan and Yoda dont appear young in their spectral forms. Luke only saw his father's face once when we was older. How would he even recognize who the ghost was? Stupid infiltrator.
Hayden sucks, that is why (in the movies) Anakin is my least favorite character.

LOL that quote really made my day. I've been ranting about that little thing of change forever. classic example of them desperately trying to create another "bridge element" between the prequels and the OT. I'm not an Anakin fan either btw... I agree with you and harry... whiney kid with stupid lines
hoh, and there a character that's definitely worse than Jar Jar btw... Boss Nass! that guy is just impossible.. I can't stand him

I don't mean to cause any upset, but I found Yoda to be quite annoying (in ESB anyway) Why was he acting so silly? I understand that in a way, he was "testing" Luke. But why was he so against training Luke? Because he wasn't a "youngling"? What were his alternatives? Even Obi Wan said that Luke was their last hope. If they were both aware of Luke's existence, with Obi Wan "keeping his eye" on Luke as he grew up on Tatooine, why didn't they get into training him earlier? Was it because they didn't want to upset Lars and Beru? And why did Obi Wan continue to live in hiding, and not getting "stronger in the Force", and come out fighting? You know, the more I think about this, the more I think that these two once great Jedi (is the plural Jedis?) didn't really do so well. Their collective role in Luke's development as a Jedi is rather lame. Especially when you consider how long Yoda had been a Master, around 800 years (?) Maybe my reading on this is out. I don't know. And I know that given enough time, we could pick holes in so many things, and I don't want to, especially considering how much I like Star Wars. Please post if you can put me right on what I've said. Yoda's goofy attitude was actually a first lesson for Luke, a way to teach him two things: appearances are not everything, and patience is. Judging by the look on Luke's face, the lesson really hit home. Yoda was also never against training Luke. His apparent reluctance was a way of determining Luke's fortitude. He had to want to be a Jedi, not just follow other Jedi around. I think they avoided training him from an earlier age in order to keep him safe from Vader and the Emperor. Remember, Palpatine began to sense the presence of Luke before Luke ever started his training under Yoda. Putting off Luke's training until he was older, until he could defend himself, was a good plan. Obi-Wan never came out fighting because he had that job of watching over and protecting Luke. Yoda remained in exile for two reasons: 1.) he could not defeat Palpatine, so he had to bide his time, and 2.) he had to reflect upon what went wrong with Anakin, how the Order was so easily decimated, and come up with a way to train Luke when the time was right. He wasn't just training another Jedi, here. He was training the first of the new Jedi Order, and that took on a whole new style of training.

Im going to add a new nominee for worst Star Wars character ever...
Ashoka Tano.
By far and away the most irratating being in the SW universe. She even makes Jar Jar seem cool. I just cant stand her stupid catch phrases, and unnessecary nick-naming of everyone. Every time I watch the Clone Wars, I pray that its going to be the episode that she dies in. We all know it has to happen sooner or later. Im hoping that Anakin, finally so fed up with her, just simply lopps her head off one day in the middle of one of her stupid rants about how somethings "just not fair."
